Thoughts of a Post-Coronavirus World (Revisited)

The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

— 2 Peter 3:9, NIV.

In the earlier post, I wrote that the world is changing massively with the coronavirus. In it, I picture the increasing global adoption of the Universal Basic Income (UBI) and the subsequent changes in global political and economical landscape. Not saying those are wrong, but there appears to be a slight change in the cosmic timeline.

Before the coronavirus hit the shores of United States, the world appears to be happy wherever it was without the need for a radical change in political and economic structure. However, when the first confirmed case of covid-19 was reported in United States on the 21st January 2020 [1], things started to change. Over the course of 2 weeks, interest in a universal basic income and democratic socialism spiked. When I wrote the first post on my thoughts of a post-coronavirus world on the 7th April, it appears that the notion of UBI and socialism were still trending. Based on that trend, I had that tingling feeling that God is preparing the world for the beginning of the end-time sequence. And goodness, I was so wrong.

Interests on the topics went down. Global news turned away from it other news like the incident with North Korea’s leader, Kim Jung Un. Over time, even the interest in “lock down” died down as people settle into what appears to be “the new norm”. Closer to home, the Singapore’s state newspaper, Straits Times reported that “many firms will be gone, some sectors will be transformed, and work practices changed” post coronavirus. Even though we have multiple budgets to supplement the drop in individual income, there were absolutely no hint of a change in economic structure whatsoever.

I do not have the answers, but it appears that “the One” that is “holding him back” is at play once again “so that he (the man of lawlessness) may be revealed at the proper time” (ref: 2 Thessalonians 2:6-7). Is there war in heaven right now as I write this (ref: Revelations 12:7)? Highly likely. Were there angels hurt and detained because of such unseen battles (ref: Daniel 10:12-14)? Likely, but we will never know for sure unless it has been made known to us. But one thing is for certain: we are all enjoying the peace of life amidst the madness of uncertainty because God is still sitting on His throne. He has granted us His peace and has given us rest. Let us not take this peace for granted and recognise that a great deal had been done for us during this episode in history.
