To them, God chose to make known how great among the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. — Colossians 1:27, ESV.
When we speak of the Tree of Life, we often think of it as the one that was formed alongside the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil in the Garden of Eden (ref: Gen 2:9). If we think this way, chances are, we wouldn’t give a second thought about it anymore. After all, God placed the cherubim to guard people from the Tree of Life with a flaming sword that turned every way (ref: Gen 3:24). So, technically, it’s impossible to come close to the Tree of Life, let alone getting hold of its fruits, right?
Truth is, though, the Tree of Life is closer to us than the unreachable garden of Eden. The Tree of Life calls out to us from the entrance of the portals, she takes her stand at the crossroads (ref: Proverbs 8:2-3). Her fruits are better than fine gold (ref: Proverbs 8:19), her being will come into our hearts and her fruits will be pleasant to our soul (ref: Proverbs 2:10).
She is a tree of life to those who lay hold of her; those who hold her fast are called blessed. — Proverbs 3:18, ESV.
If indeed the Tree of Life is wisdom, and wisdom is so close to us, why then do we not see her? If indeed we can lay hold of her, why then can we not touch her? Are the cherubim still obstructing our way to her with flaming swords? No! In Christ, all wisdom and insights have been lavished upon us so that the mystery of God’s will will be made known to us (ref: Ephesians 1:7-10)! The Tree of Life is here to stay and it fruits for our consumption.
Then why can’t we see it? Is the reason for our blindness towards the Tree of Life, our lack of knowledge in Christ?
Then Pilate said to him, “So you are a king?” Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. For this purpose, I was born and for this purpose, I have come into the world—to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.”
Pilate said to him, “What is truth?” — John 18:37-38a, ESV.
