I looked, and tendons and flesh appeared on them and skin covered them, but there was no breath in them. Then He said to me, “Prophesy to the Breath; prophesy, son of man, and say to it, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Come, Breath, from the four winds and Breathe into these slain, that they may live.’” So I prophesied as he commanded me, and Breath entered them; they came to Life and stood up on their feet—a vast army.
— Ezekiel 37: 8-10, NIV
People’s understanding of “life” is often limited to something that is within the physical realm. When someone dies, people say that life has departed from the body. We often associate a corpse as “lifeless”, but we have little understanding of what “life” truly means. Ancients often portray “life” beyond the body as the “spirit”. Hence, we can often hear from ancient folktale that the “spirit” of the dead person has gone into another place.
So, what exactly is this “life” or “spirit” that we often hear about?
The ancients are not wrong to portray the “life” as “spirits” as they depart the physical body and enter into the realm of the unknown. However, if we were to take into consideration that there is a Force controlling everything within the physical reality from a Higher Reality, we must acknowledge also that this Force is also in control of the “life” that has departed a body.
Divine Intervention to Connect Realities
Hence, when we consider “life” as an independent entity, we will need to consider the trans-reality attribute of it. Assuming that there are truly 11 dimensions in the physical world, the exiting of “life” from the 3-D may bring it into any of the other dimensions conceivable. On a normal day, the higher dimensions that “life” has been sent to do not normally cross paths with the physical realm. Even if it does, chances are it will be often brushed off as “paranormal activities”. The only way these dimensions crosses with ours for an extended period of time is when there is a sort of intervention of a superior kind.
After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light. Just then there appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus.
— Matthew 17:1-3, NIV.
Elijah was raised to God with a chariot of fire (2 Kings 2:11), and Moses died and was buried by God (Deuteronomy 34:5-6). From an earthly perspective, both men were long gone. Dead and have their relationship with earthly reality completely severed. However, they now physically appeared before Peter, James, and John in a recognizable form. Such an act was initiated by God that connected the realm of a higher level with the physical.
“Life is the same whether or not a person is physically living in the physical realm.”
Elijah and Moses both still had “life” within them as they spoke with Jesus. Given the transcendent nature of “life”, it is easy to infer that the “life” that Elijah and Moses have are the same in substance as that when they were still alive. Putting things into perspective, this meant that “life” is the same whether or not a person is physically living in the physical realm.
The Connectedness of the Spirit
Understanding the transcendent nature of life helps us recognize the connectedness of people in the spirit. Deep down in our “spirit” (or “life”), we are all connected to each other. In this state, we will be able to recognize our shepherd’s voice (John 10:27). And other than Christ, we will also be able to recognize one another just as how Peter, James, and John recognizes Elijah and Moses, or how the rich man recognizes Lazarus (Luke 16:22-24).
Such an understanding will also help us in our understanding of eternal life. We, as a species, are one in a Higher Reality. Regardless whether or not we are alive or not, we are all joined together in the Force that holds it all together.
The Transcendent Life
In the physical realm, “life” may give life to a lifeless corpse. However, beyond the physical, the “life” that once lived in our bodies are now one with all who have ever lived. They are bound by a law of a higher nature; a law that is still controlled by a Force that ultimately controls every reality that there ever is. Within this reality, “life” as we know it will never end. And within this reality, the solidification of consciousness will ensue.
“In this reality, heaven and hell are only separated by a choice.”
Choices will be fixed by one’s consciousness and its’ consequences will be extended to the length of unimaginable duration. In this reality, heaven and hell are only separated by a choice that can’t be redeemed for an eternity.
And this breath of life is in the “four winds”.
